How to turn off iMessage on iPhone
If you still have yours iPhone handy, you can turn off iMessage in a really easy way. First, enter yours SIMs. inside the phone (if not already there) and make sure that the device has successfully established the connection to the cellular data network.
Then access the settings iOS device (the gear icon located on the main screen of the device) and, in the menu that opens, select the item relating to Messages (it's halfway down the screen, so you'll have to scroll a bit to find it). At this point, move up OFF the lever for the option iMessage (so that it turns gray) and that's it.
Now you have disabled iMessage but not FaceTime, the service for making free video calls between Apple devices, which can also affect the failure to receive SMS when switching the SIM from an iPhone to a smartphone of another type.
To turn off FaceTime, go back to the menu settings iOS device (the gear icon located on the home screen), select the item related to FaceTime (located in the middle of the screen, next to the message page) and move up OFF the lever for the option FaceTime (so that it turns gray).
Mission accomplished! Now you have deactivated iMessage and therefore you will return to receiving standard SMS on your number, even if the person who sends you the messages uses an iPhone.
Remove an email address from iMessage
Don't want to completely disable iMessage but just want to remove an email address from it? Nothing easier. Go to the settings iOS, select the item related to Messagesi went his Send and receive (at the bottom of the screen that opens) and remove the check mark from the email addresses that you no longer want to use for sending and / or receiving messages on iMessage.
How to turn off iMessage without iPhone
Are you no longer in possession of the iPhone on which you originally activated iMessage? Don't despair: by connecting to the Apple website you can request the deregistration of iMessage using only your mobile number.
Make sure, therefore, that in the smartphone you currently use there is inserted a SIM associated with the same number that you used on the iPhone (and on which you had activated iMessage). Then connected to this web page, scroll down to the section Don't have your iPhone anymore? and fill out the form that is proposed to you.
Then type your mobile number in the field Please enter your phone number (making sure that thecity as country), click on the item Submit the code which is on the right and wait a few seconds: a code of 6 code via SMS.
Once you have the code, type it in the field Enter the confirmation code of the Apple site, presses the button Send and that's it. Your number will be removed from the iMessage service and then you will be able to return to receive SMS from your friends who use iPhone as well. It may take a few hours for the changes to take effect.
How to turn off iMessage on iPad
iMessage is also available on iPad. If you want to deactivate it to stop receiving service messages on your tablet, or you have an iPad with Cellular connectivity and you want to deactivate iMessage on a SIM that you will then use on a tablet or smartphone of another type (eg Android) , proceed as follows.
First, log in to settings iOS by pressing the gear icon located on the home screen, then select the item Messages located in the left sidebar, locate the entry for iMessage and move up OFF the lever relative to the latter.
Don't want to completely disable iMessage but just an email address used to send and receive messages on it? No problem. Go to the settings iOS, select the item Messages from the left sidebar, go up Send and receive and remove the check mark from the addresses you want to exclude from iMessage.
If you need to deactivate iMessage on a SIM to be used later in another device, go back once again to the iOS settings and also disable FaceTime. To disable FaceTime, select the item related to the latter from the left sidebar (always in the iOS settings menu) and move to OFF the function lever FaceTime (in alto to destra).

If you have one Mac and you have activated the synchronization of iMessage messages on the latter, you can retrace your steps by opening the application Messages, which you can find on the Dock bar, in the Launchpad or that you can search for in Spotlight (it is the one with the two blue and white speech bubbles icon).
Once the macOS Messages application is launched, select the item Pref Renze from the menu Messages located at the top left (or press the key combination cmd +, on your Mac keyboard) and, in the window that opens, select the tab Account.

In case of problems or second thoughts
Despite my suggestions you still haven't managed to disable iMessage? It seems strange. In any case, do not throw in the towel and try to contact Apple support directly.
To contact Apple support, connect to the Internet site of the Cupertino giant and click on the button relating to theApple ID. Dopodiché selects the voice iCloud, FaceTime and Messages from the page that opens e schedule a call with Apple by pressing the appropriate button.
In this way you can make a telephone appointment with an Apple technician and ask him for explanations on the deactivation of iMessage on your devices.
Alternatively, if you prefer online media over the phone, you can contact Apple Support on Twitter at the @AppleSupport account. The service is only available in English, so you will need to send a message in this language. The technicians of the Cupertino company should answer you shortly. If any steps are not clear to you and / or you want more information on how to contact Apple, take a look at my post on the subject.
