How to activate WLAN Windows 7

    Re-enable wireless connectivity

The first attempt I recommend you to make is to check that wireless connectivity has not been accidentally disabled in the Windows 7 settings. Then click on the button Home (the flag located in the lower left corner of the screen) and select the item Control Panel give the menu to compare.

In the window that opens, first go to Rete and Internet, Then network and sharing center and select the item Modify impostazioni scheda from the left sidebar. Then right click on the icon related to Wireless network connection and select the item Enable from the Windows context menu.

If the wireless connection was turned off by mistake, this will reactivate it and you can go back to exchanging files within the local network and surfing online in Wi-Fi without the slightest problem.

On some laptops it is also possible to obtain the same result by pressing a key on the keyboard: it is usually associated with one of the function keys (eg. F11 o F5) and is distinguished by the icon of aAntenna or the icon of onde del Wi-Fi. To use it, in most cases you have to hold down the key Win (the one with the Windows flag) or the button Fn of the keyboard.

    Install the network card drivers

If you have reached this point you have not yet managed to activate WLAN Windows 7, I suggest you check the status of the network card driver.

    Automatic search for drivers

Then press the button Home Windows (the flag located in the lower left corner of the screen), right click on computer and select the item Property from the menu that appears. In the window that opens, select the wording Device management from the left sidebar and wait for a list of all computer hardware components to be shown.

At this point, expand the section related to Network card, right click on the name of the network card present in the PC and, if available, click on the item Attiva. This way, if the card was completely disabled, you will reactivate it and the wireless connection will work properly again.

In the unfortunate event that the card cannot be activated, try to update its drivers by right-clicking on its name again and selecting the item Driver software update. Then agree to automatically search for an updated driver on the Internet (in this case you have to connect the PC to the Internet via an Ethernet cable) and cross your fingers so that everything goes well.

If Windows can find the most up-to-date drivers for your network card, it will install them and after a reboot of your PC, everything should be working fine again.

    Manual driver installation

If the automatic driver search has not been successful, don't give up! Try searching for the right drivers yourself and installing them "manually", it's not difficult.

To find the drivers for your network card you need to know the exact model of the latter, so I recommend you download Speccy. It is a free software produced by the same software house of the very famous CCleaner (very popular software for system maintenance and optimization) that allows you to know all the details about the hardware components of your PC even when the drivers are not installed correctly.

To download Speccy on your PC, connect to its official website and click on the button Download found under the heading Speccy – Portable. This way you will download the portable version of Speccy, which works as it is and does not require tedious installation procedures to be used.

Once the download is complete, open the zip package which contains Speccy, extract the contents to any folder and run the executable Speccy64.exe (Or Speccy.exe if you are using a 32-bit operating system). In the window that opens, if the program is in English, go to the menu View> Options at the top and select thecittàn give menu to tendin Language to translate its interface into cittàn. Then select the item Network from the left sidebar and note the name of the network card, which should be indicated next to the entry Connected through (Connected via).

Once you have discovered your network card model, connect to Google, search for [network card model] driver and proceed with downloading the drivers. I recommend, download the drivers suitable for the version of Windows installed on your PC and, above all, download only from trusted sites, possibly the site of the manufacturer of the network card or of the manufacturer of your computer.

At the end of the download, start the driver installation package (which could be in exe or msi format) and always click on NEXT o Next to complete the setup. Then restart your PC and when you restart Windows 7 you should be able to use wireless networks.

Configuring the WLAN in Windows 7

Once the correct functioning of the network card has been restored, you can proceed with configuring the WLAN in Windows 7 and surfing the Internet in Wi-Fi.

In the first case, all you have to do is go to Control Panel> Network and Internet and configure your Home Group as I explained to you in my tutorial on how to share a folder on the network, while to connect to the Internet via a wireless network, all you have to do is click on the cleats located next to the Windows clock, select the network of your interest and type in the access key.

If you don't remember the passkey of your wireless network, try to find out by following the instructions in my tutorial on how to connect to a secure wireless network. If, on the other hand, you are unable to re-enable a wireless network that now no longer seems to be active, find out how to solve the problem by reading the guide I have dedicated to this topic.

How do you say? Have you tried to put into practice all the advice I have given you so far but you still haven't managed to activate the WLAN on Windows 7? So I'm sorry, but I think the problem is more serious than expected.

As a very last hope, before contacting the technician you can try to restore Windows 7 by returning the system to an earlier date or by formatting the computer, but I don't know how much it can serve. I am afraid that your network card problem is with the hardware and therefore requires a technician.
