WhatsApp announces the upcoming arrival of a feature allowing you to program the automatic disappearance of your messages after a period of seven days. A function that will be offered to all users of instant messaging, whether in private conversations or in group discussions. In the latter case, it will be up to the group administrator to authorize – or not – the automatic deletion of messages.

Why seven days? "We're starting with seven days because we think it will give some users peace of mind that conversations aren't permanent, while still being convenient so you don't forget what you were discussing (...) shopping list or store address you received a few days ago will be there as long as you need it, then disappear when you don't," the Facebook affiliate explains.

    Old messages kept

A few details: published photos and videos may also be automatically deleted. WhatsApp indicates that it will always be possible to copy an important message to keep it, or to take a screenshot of it. The activation (or deactivation) of this feature applies chat by chat, and you will have to go to the options of your WhatsApp contacts to make the adjustment. Note, finally, that only messages published from the moment the option has been implemented will be deleted, thus preserving old messages.
