How to reactivate the microphone on the PC

Did you disable the microphone on your computer? No problem. You can quickly reactivate it using the Settings of yours PC Windows or System preference present in your Mac. In any case, this is a simple procedure that you can find described in the next few paragraphs.


Windows

If the microphone on your PC Windows does not work, you may have accidentally disabled it via the Settings Of computer. To check, then, press the button Home (the one with the Windows flag) and click on the icon Settings (depicting a gear).


At this point, in the window that has opened, click on the item System and, from the list on the left side of the page, click on the item Audio.

Now if under the heading Input it says No devices found, it means that the microphone has actually been disabled. To reactivate it, then, press on the item Manage audio devices (located a little below) and, in the new window opened, presses on the voice Microphone. Finally, click on the button Enable, to make it set as default input device.

To test the operation of the microphone and check that everything went well, return to the previous screen by pressing the button with the arrow (located at the top left), and make sure that under the heading Test the microphone, in the presence of sounds reproduced by the microphone, the bar lights up in blue.


In case the microphone doesn't work, you can try clicking the button Solving problems to see if your PC detects any anomalies in the microphone and if it has the necessary tools to automatically solve the problem. If you still can't solve it, consider hardware failure (maybe try testing with another microphone to dispel any doubts about it).


MacOS

I use a Mac and want to reactivate the microphone because it is not working properly? Then you probably have set the input volume level on 0. To remedy e reactivate the microphone, you can act through the System preference.

First, then, click on the relevant icon on the Dock bar (represented by a gray gear) and, in the new window that opens, click on the option first Sound (the icon with the speaker) and then on the tab Entrance.

Now, select the microphone that you normally use (e.g. the Internal microphone, if you don't use external audio input devices) and move the cursor next to the item Input volume at the point you want. In this way, you will enable the microphone and it will be able to correctly reproduce the noises coming from the environment.

To test how it works, make a sound (like clapping) and check the bar next to the voice Entry level: if the notches present in it, at the same time as the sound, light up, it means that you have reactivated the microphone correctly and that the Mac perceives the sounds correctly.

If not, consider the possibility of hardware failure. I rabbit you to test with another microphone, to dispel any doubts about it.

How to reactivate the microphone on Zoom

When you join a meeting on Zoom from your PC, through the appropriate Zoom client for meetings, can't use the microphone? Then it may be that you have not offered the necessary permissions to allow your computer to access this feature.

To check and remedy the problem on Windowsclick on your button Home (the one with the Windows flag) and, in the menu that opened, press the icon of Settings (the one in the shape of a gear, located on the left).

In the new window opened, select the item Privacy and, under the heading App permissions, click sull'opzione Microphone. Now you just have to check and choose which applications can access the microphone; scroll through the list of all those present, find the item Allow desktop apps to access the microphone and move the lever for that option to On.

In this way Zoom Meetings, whose icon you can see in the list, will have the necessary permission to access the audio device and you, in the next meeting, will be able to use the microphone without problems.

The same operation, on Mac, can be done using the System preference: click, then, on the relative icon (the one represented by a gear) located in the Dock bar and then, in the new window that has opened, click on the item Security and Privacy.


At this point, in the further window opened, click on the tab Privacy and select the item from the list (located on the left of the page in question) Microphone. After that, scroll through the list of applications that use the microphone and check the box next to the item Zoom.


Use theZoom app for Android (also available on alternative stores and iOS / iPadOS and have you encountered problems with the microphone? In this case, you may not have allowed the app (or revoked it) the ability to access the microphone of your device.

As far as the 'Microsoft Teams app for Android devices (also available on alternative stores) and iOS / iPadOS, the procedure to follow is the same as I indicated in the previous chapter dedicated to Zoom.

You will only have to look for the item related to Teams (instead of Zoom) inside the Settings of your device and enable the microphone by moving the appropriate lever su ON. By doing this, you shouldn't have any problems when using Teams for calling and video conferencing.

How to unmute the microphone on Meet

You relied on Google Meet, Google's online meeting platform. When you try to join a video conference, however, you find that the microphone is blocked and you don't know how to fix the problem.

If this is the case, the first thing you can do is check the operation of your microphone PC Windows, following the instructions I gave you in the initial chapter of the guide, or yours Mac, as I have always shown you previously.

In case everything is fine, it is probably a permissions issue. You may, for example, have clicked on the button Do not allow in the browser message about the request to activate the camera and microphone, immediately before the start of the meeting.

In this case, to reactivate the microphone, you can use different solutions depending on the browser you use. Up Google Chrome, for example, just click on the icon padlock in address bar and, in the window that opened, select the option Allow next to the item Microphone.

Having done that, reload the page and, if you were already in the meeting, press the button again Participate (changing the permissions, in fact, means that you have to leave the meeting in progress).

To enable it again, therefore, you can follow the same procedure that I indicated earlier, in the chapter on the Zoom app. Just search for the voice Meet in the section App of the Settings of your device Android or, in the case of a iPhone / iPad, in the list of all your apps in the Settings and move the lever relating to access to the Microphone su ON. Once this is done, everything will work properly again.

To speed up the procedure, during a meeting (if the microphone is disabled), you can press on the relative icon and, subsequently, on the voice Open Settings / Settings, within the on-screen message that opened. This way you will be immediately redirected to the section of Settings of your device useful to reactivate it.

How to reactivate the microphone on WhatsApp

Have you tried texting a voicemail on WhatsApp, the famous messaging app available on Android (also on alternative stores) and iPhone, but did you realize that the microphone is not active? So, to reactivate it, you can use the same procedure that I indicated in the chapter dedicated to how to reactivate the microphone on Zoom.

As this is an app, in fact, its operation is completely identical to that of the others discussed in the previous chapters. Even WhatsApp, therefore, needs authorization to be able to access components such as the microphone, the video camera and so on.

As for the PC version of WhatsApp, available for Windows e MacOSInstead, you can take advantage of the suggestions I gave you in the chapter on reactivating the microphone on Zoom.

It is therefore necessary, if you have not done it previously or if the settings have been changed, to authorize the application to access the microphone. Up PC Windows you can follow the path Start> Settings> Privacy> Microphone and look for the icon for WhatsApp under the heading Allow desktop apps to access the microphone, then set the lever to ON.

Su Macinstead, you have to follow the path System Preferences> Security and Privacy> Privacy> Microphone and then check the box relating to the application of WhatsApp.
